Carol Orsborn PhD


Dr. Carol Orsborn earned her doctorate from Vanderbilt University, in the field of History and Critical Theory of Religion, specializing in ritual studies and adult/spiritual development. She has authored over 25 books for and about quality of life for the Boomer generation as they have progressed through multiple life stages over the past two decades.

Her book, Fierce with Age: Chasing God and Squirrels in Brooklyn (Turner, 2013), is a memoir about her tumultuous year in which she transited “into the wild space beyond midlife.” Her original work on resilience, based on her Random House book, The Art of Resilience: One Hundred Paths to Wisdom and Strength in an Uncertain World, has been presented to such corporate clients as The Walt Disney Company, ABC Broadcast Network and Wellpoint.

Carol, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UC Berkeley, received her Masters of Theological Studies from Vanderbilt University Divinity School. She has done post-graduate work in spiritual guidance at Stillpoint and the Spirituality Center at Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles and the New Seminary of Interfaith Studies in Manhattan. Teaching ethics, leadership and resilience, she has served on the faculties of Georgetown University; Vanderbilt University’s Leadership Development Center of the Owen Graduate School of Management; Loyola Marymount University; and the Doctoral Program in Organizational Leadership at Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology.

Carol lives in Madison, Tennessee where she is part of an extended grand-family along with her husband Dan, and their dogs Lucky and Molly. She is the mother of two adult children, and a grandmother.
