Dr. John Aucott
Dr. John Aucott is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He attended the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he graduated Alpha Omega Alpha, and is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine with sub-specialty training in Infectious Disease and Geographic Medicine at University Hospitals of Cleveland. He served as the Section Head for General Internal Medicine and the Residency Program Director at the Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center while on the faculty at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine from 1989-1996.
In 1996, Dr. Aucott returned to Baltimore to join the clinical Faculty of Medicine at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine where his focus has been on patient-based research in Lyme disease. He is currently the Principal Investigator for five studies at Johns Hopkins including the prospective cohort SLICE studies, examining the impact of acute Lyme disease on long term health outcomes and immune function. As a physician scientist, he maintains an active clinical research practice in Lyme disease.
Dr. Aucott has lectured through programs sponsored by Johns Hopkins Divisions of Medicine and Infectious Diseases, the American College of Physicians, the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygeine and other major medical programs in the United States. In collaboration with the Maryland Department of Health he has developed innovative educational tools designed to help health practitioners more accurately diagnose Lyme disease. He has published numerous articles in the field of infectious diseases and Lyme disease. He was an invited speaker on the closing panel of the workshop "Critical Needs and Gaps in Understanding Prevention, Amelioration, and Resolution of Lyme and Other Tick-Borne Diseases" sponsored by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies.
Dr. Aucott is the President of the Lyme Disease Research Foundation which is a leader in translational clinical research collaborating with institutions throughout the United States. He is an international leader in creating biorepositories of blood samples for clinical research in Lyme disease. He was on the organizing committee for the June 2013 National Institute of Standards and Technology sponsored workshop to accelerate progress in Lyme disease Diagnostics and measurement technology.
